Who amongst the best women tennis player have successfully stand on the spotlight last year and considered the best of the best? Find out who comes first in WTA rankings and the ladies who gain the succeeding positions.

WTA Ranking Method

Women’s Tennis Association rankings use a rolling 52-wek, aggregate system. The ranking of a particular player is determined by the results at the maximum of sixteen tournaments for the singles and eleven for doubles. The points are given based on the progression of a player in the tournament.

The player’s ranking is calculated based on those tournaments which generate the highest points of ranking during the 52-week rolling period. But those tournaments should include points from WTA championship, Premier-Mandatory tournaments and Grand Slams. Moreover, the best 2 results at the Premier 5 will also be counted if the player belongs to the Top 20.

Top 10 Singles Ladies Tennis Rankings as of February 2016

1. Serena Williams.

With a winning 9245 points, this extreme lady from Palm Beach Garden, FL USA had successfully gain the top rank in WTA. She has made and constantly making history in the ladies tennis. She previously won twenty-two doubles championship, sixty-six singles championship and has been a Gold medalist at the 2012, 2008 and 2000 Olympics. Since she entered the tennis sports landscape, she already made countless great games.

2. Angelique Kerber.

The big hitting left-hander from Germany received the second place with a winning point of 5700. She already won 5 WTA titles which includes the 2015 Charleston & Stuttgart tournaments. Kerber is an incredible tennis player who is adept on every surfaces which leads her into three consecutive end-of-seasons in WTA top 10.

3. Simona Halep.

This aggressive Romanian baseliner gained the third place with 5545 points of the prestigious WTA rankings. She scored the first Top Ten win in 2011 and on June 2013, she won her very first WTA title. She even won second to Williams in that year.

4. Agnieszka Radwanska.

The crafty Polish gained the fourth place with her 5210 points. This mighty player had sense of the court and is capable of diffusing much powerful players with finesse and placement. She was the first Polish lady tennis player who won a WTA title and immediately cracked the WTA top 10. Since she started her tennis career, she already gained numerous titles including the premier level titles which she won in 2011, Montreal Title and but was lost to Belinda Bencic in 2015.

5. Garbine Muguruza.

With 4991 points, this Spanish lady had won the fifth place of WTA ranking. Highlights of her career include her winning maiden title in 2014 and the China Open 2015 and the Wimbledon Championship 2015. Her tennis career had gone so far. Apart from being part of the Top 10 singles, she also gained position in the doubles.

6. Maria Sharapova.

She is one of the world’s renowned tennis player and is known for her five consecutive wins in the Grand Slam championship singles. She was also the former world best Russian Glamazon. Sharapova had already won twenty-nine career titles which include at least a single win per season for eleven consecutive years. At some point of her career, she defeated some those who are now in the top place in WTA ranking. Sharapova gained the sixth position with 3672 points.

7. Pennetta Flavia.

Flavia has gain 3611 points and so still pass in the Top 10. Flavia is the first Italian lady who reached Top 10 singles and has also achieved marvelous success in the doubles. She holds fifteen doubles and nine singles titles. She indeed achieved tremendous success in this sport and now is considering to retire soonest.

8. Carla Suarez Navarro.

Another Spanish woman who gained a position in WTA top 10 singles with point of 3595, Carla is known for her incredible sweeping one handed backhand. In 2014, she had won five consecutive games and claimed her very first Oeiras career title, she had lost 5 previous WTA finals but earned her twenty-sixth triumph of the season.

9. Petra Kvitova.

She had 3582 and so gained the second to the last place in the WTA top 10 singles. An extremely gifted Czech all-court player, Kvitova combines ball striking, powerful skills with her penetrating lefty-serve and the fine feel surrounding the net. She captured her very first triumph in the Grand Slam at the Wimbledon 2011. Kvitova was the first Czech lady to gain major titles in singles. It was the highpoint of the breakthrough season wherein she gathered six championship- WTA, Linz, Wimbledon, Madrid, Paris Indoors, and Brisbane Championships.

10. Lucie Safarova.

The fight between Lucie and the 9th placer is quite close with 3580 – 3582 points. Well, it’s lucky enough for her to get the 10th place and unfortunate enough not to acquire that 2 points of her opponent. This Czech lefty lady has captured 5 career titles in singles and was a Czech public 2011 & 2012 Fed Cup member. She had acquired her outstanding Grand Slam in 2007 through advancing to Australian Open-quarterfinals. Even if she was in the last rank, Lucie successfully acquired the 8th ranking in the doubles.

They are just some of the extremely talented ladies in the tennis court. Lots of other woman from every corner of the globe had collected numerous points which led them into a tremendous success. Every player work hard to defeat the rest and be one of the best but only those who are brave enough in the court stand still after the battle. As the season changed, there is a possibility of a new winner. However, it seems that Selena Williams truly worked hard and is fully committed on being a number one and looks like she is pretty hard to defeat. The points she earned can speak of her great skills in the tennis.
