The Biggest Prize Fight – Mayweather Jr. v Pacquiao
A long-awaited fight between USA heavy hitter Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Filipino Manny Pacquiao is set to take place in Las Vegas on May 2nd, 2015.
The estimated prize of $250M (£162,000,000), will surely set the sports betting world into a frenzy, especially as it marks the occasion of the richest matchup in boxing history.
The boxing world has been waiting for almost six years for this welterweight fight to take place, finally being agreed at a face-to-face meeting at a Miami basketball game. The ‘MGM Grand Garden Arena’ in Las Vegas is to be the venue, where both men have a rich career history.
38 year-old Mayweather, who is unbeaten in 47 fights (with 26 knockouts) currently has a 60/40 favour, according to Pacquiao’s promoter, Top Rank Chairman Bob Arum.
The greatest risk to Mayweather is his loss of status as an unbeaten fighter, however if he wins it will take his career earnings to over half a billion dollars and a step towards American heavyweight Rocky Marciano’s record of 49 fights without a loss. This showdown is certainly creating a buzz in the international boxing world, and is expected to shatter all box office records.
